LAPPING SLURRIES
MOCO LAPPING SLURRIES are available in ready to use concentrations or as highly concentrated mixtures which must be diluted before being placed on the lapping surface through the use of a dual pump metering system. The spent lapping compound (effluent) is non-suspending, allowing for easy isolation of solids and liquids for disposal. All ingredients are non-hazardous.
MOCO lapping compounds are compatible with most lapping machinery in use; i.e. Crane, Spitfire, Speedfam, Lapmaster, Peter Wolters, P.R. Hoffman. These compounds can be formulated using virtually any grit size and type of abrasive.
RANGE OF APPLICATIONS
WATER BASE - silicon wafers, phenolic seals, quartz crystals, mechanical seals, valve parts, piston rings, spacers, fiber optic components, lawnmower blade/reel sharpening, backlapping.
OIL BASE - pump vanes, mechanical seals, hydraulic seals, bearings, spacers, gears.
Selection Procedure for Moco Lapping Slurries
1. CHOOSE VEHICLE TYPE
- Use liquids rather then pastes because of flexibility in use and manufacturing convenience.
- Use water bases when the customer cannot tolerate oil contamination. Use of water base will generally not eliminate cleaning problems.
- Use oil bases for all other applications.
2. SELECT ABRASIVE TYPES
- Choose silicon carbide for very hard (carbon steel) parts.
- Use aluminum oxide for most other applications.
- Employ specialty abrasives ONLY when customer has inflexible specifications.
3. SELECT ABRASIVE SIZE
- The same abrasive as in present use may produce a different finish when applied more efficiently. The new surface may be more refined or coarser.
- Several grades of abrasive are found in use. Obtain a small sample, and submit for comparison with prime graded raw materials.
